Immigration project reflection
John Rozar
Literature circle books/blogs
During this project we had three main things we needed to do get the project completed. We had to read a book about immigration and post what we think on our blogs. Second we needed to comment we also last had to interview an immigrant that we found on our own or was assigned one bye Mrs. G.
In this book I was confessed a lot when re4ading it because it would be hard I think to tell when it was the past or present he would be talking about because one of the characters name vaelentino would always reflect or describe on some of the stories he had when he was still back in Africa. I was bored at times when reading it and it was really long. I wouldn’t say I was happy about it but it wasn’t totally bad. I was not happy also because my book was the biggest maybe 2 times the size of some groups and some peoples were really small and I read slowly so I had to read almost every night to keep up with my post. I don’t think my group fully understood the book in the way it was mint to be read like I think we all thought of it in our own way and took it in differently.
I liked the first lit circle way better because you could have more of a discussion about the book and on blogs sometimes you would have some computer problems and if they were done in class there would be no excuse for not doing it. I felt the blogging was good but I would have liked to maybe met with my group like once halfway though the book so I could talk to them more about things because on the comments you just read there quotes and then never reviewed on it but in the first litture circles group it seemed like we could talk about stuff better. I noticed we interpreted the book in many different ways as I could tell from reading there blog post. I learned that every one looks at something in totally different ways and it might not always be exactly how it was mint to be impetrated but it interesting to see and compare or discuss your options. Also add predictions so we could comment on the predation our group member had made.
Art and literature
Well my decision presses started out really ruff I couldn’t decide to do a new book cover or a scene that stood out to me in the book. After I thought about it fro a while I looked at the cover and thought it really needed to be re done so I did that. I new I needed to include some parts of the original cover so I took the main focus point from it and put it on mine. I think there was a connection but a small one between my painting and the book I read. For example I tried to show his journey from Africa to the United States by having a world with an arrow and line showing wear at he came from and were he went to. I think my final product came out worse then I thought but way better then I thought at the same time. Worse because painting something and drawing are totally different when painting letters it’s really hard and to paint detail or a straight line is hard. It was also hard to make a certain color I wanted that I had in my sketches. But better because I took time on painting detail and with some help from my teachers I changed the way some things came out on my painting then my final sketch like my guy I took of the original book . The changes that were made I think came out for the better of the painting. What would have really made my painting really good would be to the background colors to all be solid colors so not like you could see thought them to the canvas but like if I were to lay the paint on really thick. I learned that you shouldn't make your art piece about whets in the book because most of the people going to look at it and will know what will happen even though they didn't read the book yet. You should have made an image about what the whole book was about and not what is in it. And not have a super amount of detail because when its time to paint it, it will come out totally different then what you had imagined.
Interview process with participant
My interviewing process went really smooth I thought. I just email her my questions she answered them pretty thorough with detail so I had plenty of information. But on some my question were yes and no answers which I think was hard to avoid for certain questions but some I think should have been open ended. I felt interviewing them 3 different times was good because it gave you more of a chance to get to know and understand the full journey your participant did and took. I learned from my first and again reputed in my last interview that she came all the way from Germany alone. After her husband who came because he was in the army. From interview 2 I learned that well this is what she said “I think you build your opinion out of images you seen, on TV shows and newspapers, and the most you see is extremes, so I must say I expected more extremes, I was pleasantly surprised how normal everything was. Children going to school, parents going to work, coming home in the evening and eating dinner, but there is one thing that is different everybody had more money and were able to spend it, people eat out a lot more and going on little shopping trips just for fun” and it was interesting to me because I know they see it on TV but I never really thought of it being super great till I heard it come from some one else’s mouth that from another country. I also learned from that interview we aren’t much different from other countries but at the same time we are so different. And from the 3 interview I learned that we have a lot of food and sports in common. Like soccer is there main sport and we have soccer and some food we have alike is Hamburger = Fleischkuechle Hot dog= Seidenwuerstchen Sauerkraut = Sauerkraut Pickles=saure Gurken Potatoes= Kartoffeln. I think that actually meeting with and talking with a real immigrant to the us made it only just a little more easily to understand how immigrants are and feel. It didn’t really help me understand much a difference from what already know. But it was cool to ask them questions on what they think of immigration and what they fell on how immigration has changed. It also I guess help me appreciate the differences between America and some other countries.

what is the what final
Quote #1: How can I pretend that you do not exist? It would be almost as impossible as you pretending that I do not exist.
I like this quote because I showed that these charters in this story do not like to give things up that they believe in. it problem extremely hard for them to give something up that they believe so much. In the past they had to give stuff up but now they don’t want to so much any more. I can relate to this sort of because I had a time when I had to give something up that was so close to me but in time I got over it. But at the moment all you want to do is hold on to it.
Question 1: pretend something you liked and cared about just didn’t exist how would that make you feel?

I think it no right to me when I thought of this quote it like all valentiono want to do id have people her him an here what it is exactly he is trying to say abut how it is there. It’s like him saying I’m telling you the truth about it weather or not you want to hear it.
Question #2
Do you like the way this story ended, and did you like the overall book?

Was breathing in the smoke? It became so hard to breath in our hut. I would take in little air and would have to cough, but I did it anyway. I kept breathing, and soon I felt weak. I was so tired! I was going to sleep, but I knew it wasn’t sleep. –Said by Moses Page: 271
Deals with number 3 the one that states what was the life/role of the characters in their home country? It talks about there life before they were in America and how bad of a place it was. And how the place was burring down. I think his judgment was good in that he took in little air because I think some people if in that situation would have panic and lose air faster.
Question1 if your home was on fire and you were in his situation how you would react?
Quote #2
They too ate the bird’s whole, their heads and feet and bones.
It also has to do with question 3. It’s sad on how hungry they were there on that the fact that they ate bones and heads just so they could get as much food of it. Lost boys do almost any thing when there hungry. When I talk to some of them that I knew the said they had ate many heads and things that we couldn’t imagine eating. When they got on the plane they had not idea what some foods were and I think its sad on how we get all kinds of luxuries and threes people out there with out them.
Question how would you feel if you were a lost boy? What would be going though you head?
